The History of our Restaurant
Once upon a time there were two boys who were passionate about traditional Emilian cuisine, wines And flavors authenticThe two were convinced of their passions, and so for about 20 years they worked, one in the restaurant business and the other in agriculture and winemaking. This is the story of Paul And Pierluigi, this is the story of The Court of the Mills.
In the 2005 the two, thanks also to the fundamental contribution of Barbara, in fact, they manage to realize their dream of opening a restaurant where they can combine their passion for cooking and wine.

Centuries-old history
But when was Castel Maggiore born?
To discover the origins of Castel Maggiore we must retrace history until we arrive in the distant July 1519. It was then that the senate allowed the Gozzadini family to build the first "mill" on the Naviglio (Navile) canal, in a place called Molini Novi (now Castelmaggiore Castle). A century later, it was here that the new owners, the Pizzardi family, built a large palace, under whose original arches we welcome you today.
From that moment on, Molini Novi began a building, industrial and commercial expansion with a meeting point at “Cenacchi Café”In 1844 the small town took the name of Castagnolo (major and minor) perhaps due to the presence of an important and influential family: the Castagnoli.

But we like to pass on the story of our grandparents, who told us about the presence of a large chestnut tree that grew spontaneously in the square following the flooding of the Navile.
Then, in 1869, the Soc. Anonima Officina Meccanica Fonderie di Bologna was acquired by the Barbieri family. Beginning in 1890, thanks in part to the renovations commissioned by the Hercolani princes (whose immense villa is located across the street), the company converted to produce refrigeration systems, which are still on the market today as the Tecnofrigo dell'Orto.
The current Castelmaggiore is located on Via Galliera, but the old “historic center” was “reborn” in the Castello area, as evidenced by the buildings in which the Corte dei Molini is located.
